Craig was pleased by the announcement that the George Eliot Hospital will benefit from a further £15m in Government funding to create two new wards above the Captain Tom Moore unit, adding 60 new beds this winter.
The 60 new beds increase the capacity of the hospital by 20 percent and are set to open very early in 2024, during what is predicted to be one of the busiest periods the NHS has ever faced. The new wards mean the hospital will be able to provide more patients with the timely care they need in a modern and tailored environment.
The George Eliot Hospital has also been awarded £6m revenue to get the new facilities ready to deliver care as soon as possible. The wards are situated on top of one of the most recent additions to the hospital, the Captain Sir Tom Moore unit, which opened in September 2020 and was built with further expansion in mind.
