Craig Tracey MP has praised North Warwickshire schools as it has been revealed our local community is one of the best performing areas for pupils attending good or outstanding schools since 2010 – figures show an increase of nearly 8,000.
The local Member of Parliament also welcomed the recent announcement that reforms to the national curriculum have seen the best reading standards in England for over 15 years.
In 2010 the Government announced that all schools would be required to use phonics to teach children to read and since then England has risen to joint 8th in the world for reading standards – improving the reading level of pupils from all backgrounds.
For North Warwickshire this has seen a significant increase in more children getting the skills they need to excel later in life. Statistics show 12,557 children in the local community are now attending schools rated good or outstanding – a huge increase of 7,818 since 2010.
Craig Tracey, MP for North Warwickshire and Bedworth commented:
“This is really impressive news for North Warwickshire – we are one of the most improved areas in the country for numbers of students attending good and outstanding schools since 2010. Standards in our schools continue to rise because of the hard work of teachers combined with the changes the Conservatives have made to the curriculum. I have seen this first hand when I visit our local schools.
“We want to ensure every child, regardless of background, gets the best start in life.”
Latest international figures have shown a significant improvement by English pupils in international league tables for reading ability. The Government’s phonics reforms have led to a dramatic improvement in school standards as shown by the Progress in International Reading Literacy Study.
