I am delighted with the latest figures showing that unemployment levels in North Warwickshire & Bedworth have fallen again – it is lower than both last month and also this time last year. The unemployment figure has dropped by 22 from February, which is really important - 22 more people in work, 22 more families benefiting from the security of a job.
Having a job does not just bring in an important pay packet each month, you are able to take pride in your work and help support those you care about, so these figures are not simply statistics but provide a glimpse into the human element of working. With the introduction of the National Living Wage and another cut in income tax I am pleased that our promises of helping hardworking people are being kept.
Our community is significantly below the average UK unemployment rate, but it is because increasing employment levels are so important, that it must remain a priority. I will continue to do all I can to promote local jobs, apprentices and business here in North Warwickshire & Bedworth.
Living in Shuttington, I see my fair share of potholes in our rural communities, however, they are also a major problem in our towns such as Bedworth. Residents will be glad to hear that a significant fund has been made available by the Government that will fix 4 million potholes over the next four years. Over the next 12 months alone, local councils will benefit from £50 million worth of funding to tackle the issue, which will see nearly 16,000 potholes filled in Warwickshire over the next year.
I am glad that the Government is investing in our local roads and infrastructure and I know that potholes being fixed will be a welcome relief to families in our community.
If you have a pothole in your area, you can report it either online or by telephone to the County Council - http://warwickshire.fixmystreet.com or 01926 412515
