Exhall ABC in Bedworth was visited by local MP hopeful Craig Tracey and Sports Minister Helen Grant last week to see the progress it has made with its refurbishment.
The community based club is growing from strength to strength with over a hundred local members from all age groups attending.
The boxing club has had funding grants with Sports England to refit the gym and changing rooms. It has received support in the past from form local Cllr Damon Brown and MP Dan Byles.
Craig Tracey, who is standing for the Conservatives locally in May’s general election said:
“When I heard about the fantastic work that Exhall ABC do here in Bedworth, for the community, fitness, teaching discipline and giving young people a sporting outlet, I wanted to show Minister for Sport Helen Grant how funding is being put to such good use. The Chairman Nigel Moore, and his coaches are doing a great job and should be very proud. The change that is taking place in the club is striking and I cannot wait to see the facilities when it is completely finished.”
The complete renovation of the club, including all new shower rooms and disabled facilities are being carried out by local builder Kingsley Halfacree, who hopes the work to be complete within 3 weeks.
Chairman of the Club Nigel Moore said:
“Eight coaches started now we have over one hundred members, we try to be a good role model for younger people in our community. It is very positive to be recognised and to have Helen Grant and Craig Tracey visit is a boost for us”.
Craig Tracey and Helen Grant met with local young boxers whilst they were training to find out about their fitness regime, as-well-as how Exhall ABC is providing access to a sport for young people that they would not otherwise have had the chance to take part in.
Minister for Sport and Tourism Helen Grant said of her visit:
“Craig Tracey had told me about the fantastic work that was going on at Exhall ABC. I think they are a great example of a local community working together to provide superb sports facilities. Craig and I were particularly impressed with the dedication of the young boxers to their training. I would like to thank Craig for inviting me along to the boxing club, I think that he will make an excellent MP for the local community.”
