The Conservative Party has made stunning gains at the expense of Labour in North Warwickshire and Bedworth.
Big scalps were taken in the Warwickshire County Council Elections by local Tories by taking three of four seats in Bedworth, including Bhagwant Pandher overturning a huge majority to defeat Labour’s Julie Jackson.
In North Warwickshire every seat bar two went blue with Labour clinging on to Atherstone by just 17 votes.
Conservative Parliamentary Candidate Craig Tracey reacted to the results:
“It is fantastic, we are delighted that local people have put their faith in the Conservatives in such a significant way and thank residents for their support. Congratulations to our new local Councillors I know how hard they have worked.”
Mr Tracey did have a word of warning ahead of his bid to be re-elected as MP for North Warwickshire and Bedworth next month:
“We are taking nothing for granted, the general election is a completely different beast to local results as we have seen historically in our community. The results are encouraging but this is still a key seat that we will be doing everything to win again.”
Conservative Andy Wright who won the Dordon and Baddesley a traditional Labour safe seat said:
“Residents appreciate a strong local message and hard work, but it was also clear from speaking to local people that they don’t feel Labour’s values represent them anymore.”
Meanwhile in Coleshill Caroline Symonds won the Town Council by-election for the Conservatives and the Tories won both County seats including against Labour’s Leader on the Borough Council.
The Conservatives have now won a majority on the County Council. For full Warwickshire County Council results visit: https://apps.warwickshire.gov.uk/ElectionResults/elections/2017
