Virgin Media has today unveiled that Baddesley Ensor in Warwickshire will be amongst the next 30 communities to benefit from an ultrafast broadband and entertainment boost this year as part of its £3bn network expansion across the UK.
Earlier this year, Virgin Media launched its ‘Supercharging Local Communities’ initiative - urging local residents and businesses to vote for their community to be next to benefit from the scheme and influence the decision on where to extend its network to.
Craig Tracey MP, who recently called for better internet availability for rural areas in Parliament, said: “I am delighted that Virgin Media have chosen Baddesley Ensor for their Project Lightning roll out. As a result, local residents will now be able to receive up to 200Mbps broadband and businesses can receive 300Mbps. It is important for families away from the main towns and urban areas to have access to the best possible internet and the value to rural businesses is significant.”
Local Borough Councillor for Baddesley Ensor Andy Wright said: “As someone who runs an online business I know what a boost this will be for people like myself and families in the village, I welcome Virgin Media’s investment in Baddesley.”
Homes and businesses across the country have been campaigning locally for Virgin Media to connect their street, with votes cast between 29 February and 30 June via the Cable My Street website.
Baddesley Ensor residents and businesses who take our services will be connected with fibre broadband run directly to their premise offering ultrafast, future-proof connectivity with download speeds of up to 200Mbps. Plus, the latest entertainment with up to 260 TV channels, including 66 HD channels as well as access to Sky Sports, Sky Movies and BT Sport, and an extensive TV on demand library of exclusive shows, box sets and movies.
Jo Dutton, Regional Director for the Midlands at Virgin Media, said: “We are delighted to be supercharging Baddesley Ensor, it shows that ultrafast broadband and top-notch TV isn’t just for big cities. We have been overwhelmed by the response from the local communities and as a result we have decided to speed up our network expansion plans, to connect the communities by spring 2017.”
