Summer has finally arrived, although many of us will be complaining that the heat wave is too hot!
July and August usually hold many exciting community events in North Warwickshire & Bedworth that I really enjoy attending.
Last week was Bedworth’s Party in the Park weekend which had a great community feel with live music, stands, dressing up and games for all the family.
I met a very nice lady there called Sarah who’s stand was for a charity called Against Breast Cancer. This is a really important cause and you can find out more about ways to support the charity and get involved by visiting www.againstbreastcancer.org.uk
I was also delighted to receive an invite from students at Wheelwright Primary School in Ash Green to visit their excellent summer fete. This followed on from their visit to Parliament last week where I met with many of the children to talk to them about how our political system works and the life of an MP.
In Parliament, I was disappointed that despite our challenge, MPs whose constituencies are affected by HS2 had their cases rejected by the House of Lord’s stage committee. However, I was able work with North Warwickshire Councillor David Reilly and local HS2 Action Groups in submitting evidence to the committee on behalf of affected groups.
We also had the first major vote of Theresa May’s premiership on the renewal of Trident; which was passed. In an ideal world there would be no need for nuclear defence systems, however, we live in the real world which has many uncertainties. That is why I believe it is imperative that the UK is properly protected no matter what may happen in the future. We must not forget that it is the first responsibility of the Government to defend its citizens.
Whether you are holidaying abroad or making the most of the nice weather at home I trust local residents will enjoy the summer while it lasts!
