Heading back to Parliament as HS2 back on the Order Paper today for consideration of Lords Amendments for the West Minster to Crewe Bill.
Although this does not cover the section of the route that will go through North Warwickshire Borough, I still intend to vote against it, if one is called.
I have been campaigning against HS2 since 2008 and consistently voted against it during my time as an MP. Unfortunately this has cross party support (I was one of only 43 out of 650 MPs to vote against the local section) so will likely pass, but it is still important to keep making the case for alternatives.
North Warwickshire is the most affected area outside of London and will see over 28 miles of track, which will have a devastating impact on our countryside whilst not answering any of the transportation issues we face locally (or nationally).
I have always maintained that the money being spent on the project could be far better utilised and in 2018 launched the Great British Transport competition which looked at alternatives - https://d3n8a8pro7vhmx.cloudfront.net/taxpayersalliance/pages/16562/attachments/original/1558213640/GBTC_REPORT_FINAL_REVIEWED_18MAY2019.pdf?1558213640&fbclid=IwAR0gk6yAKxupet-4OrnNyX9RPExJcxwjJqNKaAWOyYbBRWWbxahAIDnpQH8
Although our section of track is set in Law having been granted Royal Assent, I still work regularly with local residents to help them get the mitigation and compensation that they deserve along with frequent meetings with the HS2 team, HS2 Minister and Construction Commissioner to feed in problems, so If you need any help or support please drop me an email - craig.tracey.mp@parliament.uk
