North Warwickshire’s Parliamentary Candidate Craig Tracey invited Theresa May to speak with local Police in Coleshill to discuss issues with boy racers, local crime and Police powers.
Local candidate Craig, who will be bidding to become the next MP for our area in May, has been leading the local fight on road safety.
Craig commented:
“We have been working with the County Council and Police to improve safety on our local roads. One issue in Coleshill is the boy-racer problem on Station Road. Local Councillor Peter Fowler has been liaising with Police and is keeping residents updated on the matter. I asked the Home Secretary to come to Coleshill to speak to local Officers herself about the boy-racers and other outstanding issues. We also raised with the Police the problem of HGV parking in Coleshill – which is a continued problem our area.”
Theresa May, the Home Secretary, said:
“Issues like the boy racers need community support working with the police to help bring an end to it. Clearly Craig Tracey and Peter Fowler are taking a stand and I was particularly interested in Craig’s suggestion of working with insurance companies to help stop this anti-social behaviour.
“It has been a really useful visit, especially to speak with local Police Officers and to see that new Police powers are working. The feedback from the Coleshill Police base was positive; it’s an ideal location for local people and the Police. The partnership between Warwickshire and West Mercia shows how two Police Forces can keep their identities whilst working together to benefit the community.”
Craig Tracey, who has run a small Insurance Brokers nearby for nearly 20 years, made the suggestion to Inspector Reid to work with insurance companies after collecting evidence on cars used for racing on Station Road and will be holding a further meeting with the inspector to act on this.
County Councillor Peter Fowler commented:
“The additional Police Patrols on Station Road are working, and a great deal of credit should go to our local Police for their response. I will continue to keep tabs on the road and speak with local residents about their concerns to update them. It was a real positive to have the Home Secretary in Coleshill to highlight the excellent work from our local Officers.”
