North Warwickshire Conservatives are pleased to announce the selection of local resident Craig Tracey as their Parliamentary Candidate for the 2015 General Election.
Born in the North East, Craig moved to North Warwickshire in 1997 and runs his own small business in Staffordshire with his fiancee Karen.
Craig commented, “I am delighted to have been selected for my home constituency.
As someone who lives, shops, works and socialises locally, I know firsthand the issues that constituents face and understand how important it is that we continue to have a strong voice in Westminster.
It has been a pleasure to work alongside our MP Dan Byles over the last four years and he has been a great representative for the constituency, tirelessly campaigning on key issues such as HS2 and the George Elliot Hospital. I very much intend to carry on in that vein, always putting the people of North Warwickshire first.”
Craig, who lives in Shuttington and is also Chairman of the local Parish Hall in the village, won a selection meeting of local Conservative members with a significant margin. The local businessman outlined his qualities and priorities for North Warwickshire & Bedworth, by pointing to what he has heard from speaking to 1000s of residents on the doorstep and down the local pub over a number of years.
The new Conservative Parliamentary Candidate said:
“I can bring a local residents’ perspective to our campaigns along with the experience of running my own small business nearby. I can understand the concerns that people face in North Warwickshire because I face them too, I am not a career Politician who is out for himself; I genuinely care passionately about our community.”
Craig describes himself as a Eurosceptic, who believes Britain should take back control of our borders to limit immigration, he also outlines the importance of small businesses in improving the economy and providing jobs for local people.
He explained:
“Since the Conservatives came to Government unemployment has fallen by 64% in North Warwickshire & Bedworth, the economy is now back to levels of before the financial crash under Labour – why would anyone want to go back to that? The Conservatives have supported businesses by reducing the jobs tax, cutting unnecessary red tape and reducing corporation tax as we understand the importance of getting people into work and apprenticeships.”
Shuttington resident Claire Underwood is certainly pleased with the choice. Claire, who works for the NHS in South Staffordshire said "It is fantastic that Craig has been selected to stand in the General Election. He has worked extremely hard in our village as a member of our Parish Council and Chairman of the village hall, even managing to convince Tamworth Football club to use our facilities for their training, which brought in vital funds. I have not always been a Conservative voter, but will definitely be voting for Craig! I know he is a hardworking and honest man and we need need more decent, genuine people like him in politics"
Local MP Dan Byles also backed the decision to select Craig Tracey saying:
“I have known Craig as a resident and local campaigner for many years. He has all the qualities to be a great representative for the people of North Warwickshire & Bedworth. He is an excellent local choice, Craig is a breath of fresh air, we must now look to the future and in Craig I believe we will have a fantastic MP for our community”.
After being unveiled to rapturous applause at the selection meeting held at the Grimstock Hotel in Coleshill last night Craig concluded:
“It is an honour to have been chosen and I will fight to win the seat again for local residents and for our Party”.
