Local Member of Parliament for Bedworth and North Warwickshire Craig Tracey is campaigning on behalf of a local village to change their postcode to a Warwickshire code.
Hawkesbury Village, near Bedworth, currently has a Coventry city postcode meaning that emergency services in Coventry are often initially asked to attend a crisis rather than Warwickshire police or fire rescue. This could potentially lead to delays in attendance from services in the event of an emergency.
Craig has written to the Government with evidence from the local emergency services and residents calling for the change that would increase safety for villagers due to response of emergency services.
Craig Tracey MP commented:
“It sounds like a simple thing to change a postcode but it would have a significant effect in ensuring no delays in call outs of police or fire servicee. I have received a positive response from the Minister for Intellectual Property who will now be contacting Royal Mail to ask them to consider changing Hawkesbury from CV6 to a CV7 postcode. Hawkesbury residents have been calling for this for a number of years, as have local emergency services – it would be a common sense change”.
The Local MP and residents will also contact Royal Mail to call for the change.
