Conservative Parliamentary Candidate Craig Tracey invited Eric Pickles to meet with local residents over their concern for development plans at the Daw Mill Colliery site.
Craig and many residents are concerned over the proposals to turn Daw Mill into a business park; a move that would see a significant increase in HGV use along local roads including between Coleshill and Fillongley.
Craig Tracey, who’s family have a mining background in the North East, commented:
“The current road infrastructure is not compatible for the number of extra HGVs that would be brought about by the proposals. I am standing alongside residents in their concerns. There was a covenant which would bring the Daw Mill site into green belt land once mining has ceased. I wanted residents to be given the chance to directly raise their views with Eric Pickles as the Communities Secretary. We have already seen that Eric had to step in locally to prevent a development on green belt land in Hawkesbury village.”
At the meeting at Fillongley Village Hall residents, members of the local action group and the Parish Council explained to Eric Pickles, Craig Tracey and Marcus Jones the threat that the Daw Mill proposals brings to the local area.
Craig Tracey then drove Mr Pickles and residents along the route between Fillongley and Coleshill which HGVs would use if the proposals went ahead.
Craig said:
“We took Eric Pickles directly to the areas that would be affected by the proposals so that he could see the impact for himself.”
