The Bedworth Branch of Coventry Building Society invited Bedworth and North Warwickshire’s voice in Parliament, Craig Tracey MP to visit to explain their values and activities which benefit its 18,000 members in his constituency. The Coventry has recently seen profit before tax increased by 7% to £216.0 million (2014: £201.8 million). However, the building society were keen to stress that success can take many forms and the Society’s performance should not solely be judged on continued profitability or growth of assets, membership and employment. A spokesperson for the Coventry Building Society stated that: ‘During its long history the Society has always worked to make a difference in the communities where its members live and has increased support at both national and local level in recent years. Particular mention should be made of the partnership with its corporate charity, The Royal British Legion, which has resonated so strongly with members of the Society that over £12 million has been donated to them since the partnership began in October 2008. ‘Of equal importance to many within your constituency is the Coventry’s wider Community programme. Staff volunteered over 3,630 hours of their time in 2015 to support a huge range of good causes, and the Community Partner programme – where branches and head office areas volunteer, raise money and awareness for a charity or good cause local to them – has gone from strength to strength, with over 60 partnerships now in place.’ Craig Tracey, member of the Parliamentary Select Committee for Business Innovation and Skills, commented: “It is great to see a local building society performing so well and going out of their way to make a positive impact on our community. Their partnership with the Royal British legion is particularly impressive. “Many people in our constituency use the Coventry Building Society so it is important for me to see first-hand how they are working and looking after their customers. There are two local branches in Bedworth and Coleshill and I am sure customers will receive as warm a welcome as I was given by Manager Sheryl Stanton and her team on my visit.”
